(Brunch) Avoca, 11-13 Suffolk Street, Dublin 2

This might sound as if I am sponsored or something but I have to share my love for Avoca.

Each time I visit one of the Avoca stores I want to buy everything and this applies to clothes, jewellery, accessories, kitchenware, books, and food. Everything!

So far my favourites Avoca stores are the one in Malahide Castle and the one in Powerscourt House in Enniskerry. As I live in Dublin I always go to the store on Suffolk street, actually at least once a week, either for shopping, eating or checking their new stuff. I went a bit Avoca crazy lately and here a few shots from food I recently loved!

Goat cheese, butternut squash and chutney tart, Cheese and tomato scone, falafel sandwich and Portuguese tart
A few weeks ago, my friend and I met up with bloggers Aga and Nuno from Aga, Nuno Somewhere. Aga is from Poland and Nuno from Portugal, this cute couple moved to Galway a few months ago after living in Krakow, Porto, Bucharest and Barcelona. They visited Dublin for the first time and we went for breakfast in Avoca.

The cafĂ© is located at the top level of the shop. It’s a spacious, bright room with shabby chic decor. I love their lampshades, the quirky frames and vintage chairs.

It’s a popular place and it’s often busy but the staff are very organised, take your name, tell you how long the wait will be and there is even a little corner where you can sit and wait for a table.

We visited on a Sunday morning for breakfast. They have a great choice of savoury and sweet dishes: from porridge with potted cream with honey (€4.10) to the full Irish breakfast (€11.50), from home made scones, to French toast with crispy bacon (€8.60). They add a 10% service charge to the price at the end.

I fancied something savoury and healthy so I had the mushrooms on toasted brown bread served with rockets salad and tomato. There was a massive portion of tasty, creamy mushrooms that were nicely seasoned and the bread was absolutely delicious. I also had a mango and passion fruit smoothie (€3.25) that was sweet and refreshing. My friend had pancakes served with berries, the portion was substantial and she loved it. Aga also had pancakes and Nuno had the full Irish breakfast. Avoca full Irish is made of crockers free range scrambled eggs, field mushrooms, crispy Americna style bacon, jumbo hand-made sausage and roasted cherry and vine tomatoes (€11.50). I didn’t take a pic of their dishes, it was the 1st time I met them, so I didn’t dare being the pathological food picture taker!

We all were very happy with our food and left with full, contented bellies. Avoca definitely is one my favourite spots in Dublin for brunch for many reasons: great choice of breakfast/brunch, lovely decor, friendly staff, central location and reasonable prices.  I think I have an Avoca addiction!
