Honest 2 Goodness Market, Glasnevin, Dublin 11

Food bloggers Kristin from Edible Ireland and Caroline from Bibliocook are the founders of the Irish Food Bloggers Association (IFBA). As well as updating the website with useful information/tips, they organise meet ups and food events for the Ireland-based food blogging community.

IFBA members met at Honest 2 Goodness where we were treated to lunch in the cafe and then given a tour of the market. Brid Carter was a wonderful host and made us feel so welcome in this foodie heaven.

The Honest 2 Goodness Market takes place every Saturday from 9.30am to 4pm (and on Wednesdays, except during the winter) in Dublin Industrial Estate in Glasnevin Dublin 11. The first thing which is great about this market is that it’s indoors, so you have no excuse for not visiting it and can’t blame the Irish weather. If you drive, free parking is available and if you’re using public transportation, many buses stops nearby.

The experience is so much more than just buying food, it’s about good food, it’s about supporting local Irish producers and also getting the human interaction which is so great about markets. You see the products, you can smell and taste them, learn their history and find out about the people behind them. Producers and stall holders are passionate and proud of what they do and it’s great to witness their love of Irish food.

Arun Bakery‘s team bakes their breads in Stoneybatter, Dublin 7. They specialise in sourdough bread which comes in many shapes and flavours: rosemary and olive oil boule, sourdough baguette, rye sourdough bread, spelt soda bread and much more. They provide breads to many restaurants and cafes in Dublin and sell their products at H2G every Saturday. Visit their stall to buy some delicious breads and also meet this lovely bunch of people!
Nicola from Big Red Kitchen sells her homemade jams, chutneys, sweet dessert sauces, marmalades and preserves. I found her story inspiring; she used to make jams as a hobby and when she was made redundant a few years ago, she made it her business. She has a beautiful display of many of her products at H2G, her lemon curd is a must try!
Cake pops are little balls made of cake crumbs mixed with icing or chocolate and styled on a lollipop stick. They were made famous by Bakerella who is literally the queen of cake pops. Catherine Dempsey is the ‘chief popper’ of Kate Pops and sells her gorgeous creations at H2G. Vintage style, lady bird or Oreo cake pop, these perfect sized treats will catch your eye for sure. Catherine sometimes teaches Cake Pop classes at Decobake. Cake pops are fabulous to impress guests at weddings or parties!
Kate Packwood from The Wild Flour Bakery makes beautiful homemade cakes showcasing artisan Irish ingredients. Her cakes are different from what you usually tend to find everywhere else; she creates original flavour combination. Her Gortnamona (Irish Goat cheese), Irish honey & Ariosa coffee macarons are so unusual yet amazing. Her dark chocolate and sea salt caramel brownies or her lemon and passion fruit polenta cake are to die for; actually I think everything she makes is.
I can’t feature every single stall but want to say thanks to everyone for their warm welcome and smiles (full list of stalls here). From fresh fruits and veg to fish, from sweet treats to meat, from wine to chocolates, there are many stalls to shop from plus you can have lunch at the on site cafe if you wish to have a little break during your food shopping spree. The Honest 2 Goodness market is definitely a great place for all you food lovers out there!

*Thanks a million Brid, Kristin and Caroline for organising this fantastic meet up!
