Bastille Day 2013 in Dublin: French Foodie's suggestions

So you want to celebrate Bastille Day in Dublin? While there are no fireworks or military parade like in Paris, I still have a few suggestions for you that can make your week-end truly Gallic.

The France Issue of the Irish Times magazine If you buy the Irish Times, you'll noticed that the Irish Times Magazine is very French today. You'll read about Yamina Raza, The Daft Punk and Isabel Marant as well as some French inspired recipes in this très française edition of the magazine. Oh la la!

Paris-Manhattan at the IFI Why not watch a French movie? Paris-Manhattan is showing at the Irish Film Institute. This French movie directed by Sophie Lellouche is about Alice, a pharmacist in her 30s, unlucky in love and completely obsessed with Woody Allen.
IFI, 6 Eustace St, Dublin 2, www.ifi.ie

%15 OFF ON French wines at Honest 2 Goodness market If you're heading to Honest 2 Goodness market in Glasnevin today make sure to check out the wine stall. To celebrate Bastille Day all wines on offer are French and they have some specials on for the occasion.
Honest 2 Goodness market, Slaney Close, Dublin 11, http://www.honest2goodness.ie

French products at Fallon and Byrne and Cheese sale I've already mentioned a few French products at Fallon and Byrne in a previous blog post. To celebrate Bastille Day, Fallon and byrne has a little corner full of French products on display, a few French specials at their restaurant (coq au vin, onion soup, creme caramel) and 20% off 6 of their French cheeses including the delicious Napoleon. C'est formidable!

Cook French food at home I know you're roasting and the kitchen isn't appealing right now, but just in case, I have a few recipes on my blog here. Beware they're wintery dishes, I never expected a heat wave to happen in Ireland. Sacrebleu! If you're looking for more inspiration I'd recommend you get My Little Paris Kitchen by Rachel Khoo or Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child. Donal Skehan recently went to France and wrote a fabulous blog post about his time there and you will find some great recipes inspired by la Belle France.

Have a French inspired BBQ or picnic In France they love eating outdoors during the summer months, spending time with friends and family over Barbecued meat. Some of my personal favourite foods for a BBQ are grilled merguez and chipolatas sausages (you can find them in Fallon and Byrne). They also enjoy picnics with savoury and sweet tarts, quiches, big salads, wine, cheese and meat platters.

Have a great Bastille Day everyone! Vive la France!
