The Pepper Pot, Powerscourt Centre, South William St, Dublin 2

The Pepper Pot café is located on the first floor of the Powerscourt Centre on South William St. Ladies, if you love pretty bunting, vintage crockery and good food, we could be friends and you'd love the Pepper Pot. Gentlemen, you'd love it too as they serve the best bacon sandwich in Dublin!

They do breakfast all day, such as creamy scrambled eggs with bacon or smoked salmon (€5.95), porridge with different toppings (€2.50) or scone with jam and cream (€2.90). If you visit at lunch time or during the day you can chose from their specials, which you'll find on their black board or can order their soup of the day (€4.50), homemade sandwiches, salads, bagels and seasonal tarts. Each dish is under a tenner and they use some lovely Irish products such as Gubeen chorizo, Burren Smoke House salmon and Cashel blue cheese just to name a few.

If you need a dessert or a little afternoon tea, they bake their own treats and you'll see them displayed at the counter: carrot cake (€4), flourless chocolate cake (€4.50), Victoria sponge cake (€4) and more.

Now, let me recommend to you their bacon sandwich (€5.80). Imagine some tasty piggy (bacon) with roast pear, Montgomery cheddar and wholegrain mustard between two delicious slices of homemade bread. Their bread is so soft and fluffy you could use it as a pillow. The bacon and roast pear are a lovely combination which work beautifully, making this rich sambo a gourmet delight. I honestly didn't want this sandwich to end... ever.

Add a lovely organic elderflower fizz (€2.50) as I did and you get a tasty weekday lunch for under €10.

Yolene  had a gorgeous sandwich too, with red pepper pesto and Ryefield goats' cheese (€5.20), a nice pick if you're vegetarian. She also tried their refreshing homemade ice tea (€2.50).

You can also buy some products to take away (chutneys, marmalade, jams...) and breads which need to be ordered a day in advance.

Lovely food, friendly service and the gorgeous setting of the Powerscourt centre make the Pepper Pot a great little place for some grub.

I'm still thinking about the bacon sandwich... that says it all!
