While the food scene has really improved in Dublin, the city still lacks pubs with great food. In terms of gastropubs, there's L. Mulligan Grocer and then quite frankly I can't think of anywhere else. Well thankfully another great option has arrived; the Legal Eagle.

I have to confess, each time I walk around Portobello I get such a feeling of house envy, especially along the canal. It seems like a nice neighbourhood to live in and there are some lovely food options like the ever popular Bibi's café or the lovely restaurant Locks.

I grew up with three brothers, all of whom were a good few years older than me. One of them was particularly good at spending any money he earned on the latest video game, so playing video games was a big part of my childhood. In particular I was a sucker for football, tennis and fight games.

Today I will make a little confession... I'm not comfortable writing about fine dining experiences. 

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy treating myself to a fancy meal from time to time, but I feel like it's a big responsibility to recommend something that costs so much money. This is the reason why I never reviewed Thornton's (now closed)  nor the Greenhouse when I had their dinner tasting menus last year, even though Mr. FFID and I had a great experience. After paying the bill I always think of my mam, who would give out to me for spending so much and feel a little bit guilty... just for a fraction of a second though,  you only live once after all.

Last week one of my colleagues told me that from reading my social media posts she thought Mr. FFID was French, it made me laugh. So in case you were wondering Mr. FFID is a Wicklow man but that’s all I’m going to share about my mysterious husband today. We got married last year and received a gift voucher for Brooklodge as a wedding gift from friends. So when we realised it would expire this summer we booked ourselves a much needed staycation in Mr. FFID’s home county.

A Very French Brunch in Dublin: Ladurée

Whenever I feel like going to Paris my cheap alternative is always to spend some time in Dublin's Ladurée. I couldn't believe it when they opened their tea house on South William Street last year and I've visited many times to buy macarons or drink a hot chocolate on a dreary day... It really does the trick to make me feel like I've been to France for a few minutes.

Then there are places like Mr. Fox restaurant, which appear discreetly in the background of Dublin's buzzing food scene. Herbert Park Food Market

I've been eating quite a few doughnuts lately but to be honest nothing that I wanted to write about here. The only ones I was yet to try where the ones from the Revolution Bakery, who supply a few shops and cafes on the south side of Dublin (Avoca, Emer's Kitchen, Thru the Green...). They also have a vintage van that parks at a few food markets and I knew they were at Herbert Park last Sunday so Mr. FFID and I went for a stroll out to Ballsbridge.

Ireland must be the only place where people help lost tourists with directions by bringing them to the place they're looking for. I've seen this a few times and have even done it myself, well last weekend it happened to me, except I'm not a tourist anymore.

Review: Gaillot et Gray

Over two years ago I reviewed a lovely vintage Citroën truck selling pizzas in Greystones called Gaillot and Gray, so I was very happy to hear they opened a pizza place on Clanbrassil Street a few months ago. This is an interesting corner of Dublin 8, next door to craft beer pub 57 The Headline and very close to trendy Bastible; it's definitely worth a visit.

Café Crush: Meet Me in the Morning

I haven't had a cafe crush in a such a long time... There are many places I like but they just don't tick all the boxes, maybe they're too noisy or the staff aren't very warm, and lately I've found that places start to look the same. So I was delighted to discover a new little café recently, which was a total breath of fresh air.

One of the places which has been on my list for a long time is Fish Shack in Dun Laoghaire. Unfortunately, I got distracted by all the recent openings closer to where I live and never made it there. So I was delighted to discover that a Fish Shack Cafe opened on Parliament Street in Temple Bar, less than 15 minute walk from where I live.

Review: The Washerwoman, Glasnevin, Dublin 9

On a very productive Saturday, Mr FFID and I walked from Dublin city centre to Glasnevin.
We first stopped into the buzzing Honest 2 Goodness market and then joined a guided tour of Glasnevin cemetery. The tour was very interesting, it was an hour and a half long and we got to the burial sites and tombstones of many of Ireland's historical figures.
