2018 Food Highlights

It's the time of the year when everyone shares their food "awards", revealing their favourite places of the past twelve months. I thought I'd throw in this quick round-up of my 2018 food highlights before we start 2019.

There were lots of new openings in Dublin in 2018 and most of them weren't my type of places (looking good on Instagram but average and pricey food, no thanks!) so I didn't bother visiting them. There were also a few places I tried (new or not) that didn't make it to the blog because either the service or food wasn't great... A friend of mine told me that I've became very fussy which is probably true. I decided to save my bucks by eating out less and going to places I find consistently good. There are still some great places to eat in Dublin but I'll be honest, at this stage my favourite places are pretty much the same from year to year. So I've decided to also share some food travel highlights and anything else than made my 2018 delicious.

So here it is (click on the names of the places to read my full reviews):

- The best almond croissant I've ever had in Democratic Coffee (Copenhagen, Denmark)
- Incredible tacos at Hija de Sanchez (Copenhagen, Denmark)
- The burgers from Bujo (Dublin)
- Moreish pastéis de Nata from Manteigaria (Lisbon, Portugal)
- My birthday dinner in Minibar (Lisbon, Portugal)
- Numerous casual dinners at The Legal Eagle (Dublin)
- The best breakfast in Ireland at Ballymaloe House (Shanagarry, Co. Cork)
- Street food from Vietnom in Stoneybatter (Dublin)
- Bread from Bread 41 (Dublin)
- The many coffees, peanut butter and banana muffins and berry scones I had in Tang (Abbey Street, Dublin 1)
- The Reuben sandwich from 147 Deli (Dublin)
- Rice bowl from White Mausu (Dublin)
- Vegan nachos from My Goodness (Cork)
- The bacon and pear sandwich in The Pepper pot (Dublin)
- Cheap lunches of tacos al pastor in El Grito (Dublin)
- Every single tasting menu I had in Forest and Marcy (Dublin)
- The one lunch and three dinners I had in Mr. Fox (Dublin)

That's it for 2018, many of my highlights were actually home-cooked meals which I didn't share on any platforms. There are a few recent openings that are on my radar and that hopefully will make it to the blog in 2019.

Have a fantastic New Year's Eve everyone, I'll be back more often over here in 2019!
